Abstract

LOPEZ FERNANDEZ, Francisco Javier. The role of local authorities in the field of social action in Spain. Rev. IUS [online]. 2013, vol.7, n.32, pp.58-85. ISSN 1870-2147.

Administrative intervention has evolved, for centuries, through local authorities. These public authorities are the ideal means for providing social services, mainly due to its proximity to the citizen and therefore, to real problems of the population. Even though social action is an autonomous competition, local authorities play important functions in the field of care services, with autonomy in the management of social resources and after complying with legal requirements on social action.

Keywords : Local authorities; social action; social services; local management; social service centres.
