Abstract

VELOZ CONTRERAS, Areli. Contentions by the city: criminalization, deaths and political organization around sexual diversity in Tijuana. Culturales [online]. 2017, vol.5, n.1, pp.85-120. ISSN 2448-539X.

This article examines how gender and sexuality are part of the internal boundaries of Tijuana. With the analysis of the discourses of the newspaper, in contrast to interviews with its key informants, it is noted that there are disputes for the internal boundaries of the city. Located between the decades of the seventies and nineties, the study emphasizes how the control and regulation of sexualities account for the political actions of subjects acting, they reinvent themselves and are involved in the production of the city. It is exposed, first, a conceptual discussion on the delimitation of the borders regarding sexualities subsequently referred to the political and social conservatism in Tijuana, then mention the repression and killings against the mujercitos it is mentioned. As a conclusion, the disputes and political organization around sexual diversity make the internal borders in Tijuana.
