Abstract

ORTEGA VILLASENOR, Humberto. Challenges of the creative potential of intermediality. Culturales [online]. 2016, vol.4, n.1, pp.167-198. ISSN 2448-539X.

The article proposes that intermediality is not a new phenomenon. In earlier times, artists took an interest in combining different media of expression such as music, painting, words, etc. Nevertheless, in the 21st century, this takes on added significance as a result of the dizzying growth of technology and communication media, which have dynamized physical and virtual mobility, multiplied the potential for combining media and expressions, and increased data storage and availability. Although intermediality does present some drawbacks, it has clearly served as an impetus for the emergence of modes of creativity based on collaboration networks for staging performances, producing other kinds of artwork, and relating concepts. This last point represents a potential for the future, and at the same time imposes epistemological challenges on the humanities, inasmuch as it will not be enough to propose isolated or prototypical interpretations of a given expressive medium, the times call for intermedial analyses.

Keywords : collaboration networks; intermedial products; interdisciplinarity.
