Abstract

SOL RODRIGUEZ, Manuel  and  GARCIA VALDEZ, Ricardo. Fight against discrimination and identity: a psychoanalytic reflection. Culturales [online]. 2016, vol.4, n.1, pp.87-111. ISSN 2448-539X.

This text reflects upon the limitations of a fight against discrimination which focuses on identity. Based on the model of formation of the I in the mirror stage proposed by Lacan, as well as his definition of the imaginary, there are argued the difficulties that emerge when addressing discrimination from identity and, specifically, from the enhancement of it. The fundamental argument consist in pointing out that placing the cause of discrimination in identity and tackling discrimination from that perspective is to maintain a relationship with the other in an imaginary order; the latter leads to prejudice and stigma.

Keywords : Fight against discrimination; identity; psychoanalysis.
