Abstract

RODRIGUEZ ZOYA, Paula G.. Anti-aging visualities. The imaginary production of aging control and youth preservation. Culturales [online]. 2015, vol.3, n.2, pp.229-262. ISSN 2448-539X.

The article develops the concept of anti-aging visualities in order to analyze the production and circulation of images and social discourses regarding youth preservation, aging control and healthy longevity. The analysis is based on audiovisual and documental sources through which anti-aging visualities are explored in advertising, scientific, urban, biomedical, sociodemographic, mythological and fictional fields. The central thesis of the article states that anti-aging visualities constitute an interdiscursive and transtemporal regime regarding aging and the expectation of its control. The main conclusions of the work suggest the practical and political potential of the regime of anti-aging visualities in terms of subjectivity production, body change and life extension.

Keywords : anti-aging; visualities; discourses; aging; imaginal production.
