Abstract

VENDRELL FERRE, Joan. Cuajinicuilapa's marisoles, Mexico: analisys of a generic process tertiarization. Culturales [online]. 2015, vol.3, n.1, pp.137-166. ISSN 2448-539X.

This article is an anthropological analysis of the gender structures as presented in the community of Cuajinicuilapa, Mexico. The analysis was developed focuses on the self-identified figure of the marisoles -known in the community as putos-, which as seen as a possible alternative gender. Starting from the need to understand the gender from the community's own categories, the analysis includes male and female fields as given in Cuajinicuilapa, figures of "correct" man and woman and their respective deviations: puto and puta. As the main objective is to understand marisoles and its structural position in the gender system of Cuajinicuilapa, its location between masculine and feminine is considered in terms of economic, festive-ritual, social, and sexual fields, and also in terms of body construction.
