Abstract
RAMIREZ PLASCENCIA, Jorge. La retórica católica sobre el trabajo voluntario a la luz de los discursos de Benedicto XVI. Culturales [online]. 2013, vol.1, n.1, pp.27-52. ISSN 2448-539X.
Religion has broad discursive and practical connections with selfless help for others. This paper seeks to analyze some conceptual and argumentative links between the catholic religion and volunteerism. In order to do this, some speeches of Benedict XVI will be used. The analysis is made from a rhetorical perspective using various analytical resources of long tradition, particularly Bitzer, and Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca. The rhetorical approach allows us to observe the argumentative structure of a discourse whose purpose is to convince one that volunteer actions, despite their different reasons, are motivated by religious principles. It is noted that the figure of Jesus as the first model of volunteer, of sacrifice and reciprocity, is perhaps the main core of this catholic argumentative about volunteering
