Abstract

SCHIFTER ACEVES, Liliana. Mexican Pharmacopeias in the construction of a national identity. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2014, vol.45, n.2, pp.43-54. ISSN 1870-0195.

The history of the Mexican pharmacopoeia is closely linked to the emergence of the new Mexican nation in the 19th century and the construction of a national pharmacology. During this century, a very particular nationalism emerged in different aspects of life throughout the country, and science was no exception. A strong initiative to take advantage of the wealth of indigenous resources promoting the scientific development of various disciplines, contributed to the consolidation of a national identity. The aim of this study is to analyze the various editions of the Mexican Pharmacopoeia since the first edition in 1846, to the last one, in 2011, in order to establish an overview of its structure and its evolution, as well as the motivations purposes which have encouraged its publication from its origins to the present day.
