Abstract

BARRIOS-DE-TOMASI, Jorgelina; BARRIOS-DE-TOMASI, Eliana  and  VERGARA-GALICIA, Jorge. Obesity effects on female reproduction. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2013, vol.44, n.3, pp.8-18. ISSN 1870-0195.

Obesity is a multifactorial global epidemic involving genetic, physiological, environmental and social factors. In this review article we discuss the impact of obesity on female reproduction. As we know, adipose tissue is an endocrine organ that regulates hormone production involved in metabolism, homeostasis and reproduction in women as well as in men. We describe changes in female reproductive organs under the influence of hormonal changes that happen in overweight or obese women.

Keywords : Obesity; female reproduction; ovary; endometrium.
