Abstract

RENDON-ARIAS, Iliana. Legislative representation and political mediation in the democratic context. Andamios [online]. 2021, vol.18, n.47, pp.287-303.  Epub Oct 17, 2022. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v18i47.878.

This article discusses the relationship between political representation and political intermediation in the context of modern democracies. It is argued that political intermediation is a non-democratic form of representation that fosters the treatment of local demands and establishes particular communication channels between the intermediated groups. Likewise, the tensions that are generated in the process of legislative representation are exposed, considering party discipline and consecutive reelection as variables that intervene in the process and that change the behavior of the actors.

Keywords : Political representation; political intermediation; democracy; consecutive reelection; party discipline.
