Abstract

NAHUEL MARTIN, Facundo. Policies of the matter. Material production in Postone’s thought. Andamios [online]. 2021, vol.18, n.45, pp.393-413.  Epub Sep 27, 2021. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v18i45.823.

I will try to reconstruct how Moishe Postone studies the material and concrete aspects of capitalist society. This author is usually read as a theorist of the social form, which leads to neglecting his ideas about material production. This analysis is philosophically relevant insofar as it includes theories on the neutrality of technology and the modes of social universality. Postone analyzes industrial production, concrete labor and historical time as forms of material production qualitatively relevant to critical social theory, in which the contradictions between oppressive forms and emancipatory potentialities of capitalist society are confronted.

Keywords : Critical theory; modernity; capitalism; material production; social universality.
