Abstract

IBORRA MALLENT, Juan Vicente. Garifuna migration, deportations and political asylum within a context of forced displacement. Andamios [online]. 2021, vol.18, n.45, pp.47-76.  Epub Sep 27, 2021. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v18i45.810.

The main goal of this essay is to highlight the forced nature of the Garífuna migration from Honduras to Mexico and the United States, linking these movements with the territorial dynamics in the communities of origin. For this porpuse I make a genesis of the problem, getting deeper into the historical character of this migratory process. In addition, I analyze the particularity of these human mobility flows in a context marked by the proliferation of Honduran caravans. To this effect, I present how deportations and asylum policies influence border regulation and control, as well as migratory dynamics.

Keywords : Territorial displacement; garifuna migration; central american caravans; deportations; asylum.
