This article aims to present the trends of internal migration in Mexico since 1970 and its implications on the population distribution in the territory. The period analysed shows the concentration of population in urban areas, the decrease of internal mobility in relatives terms, the increase of the international migration until 2008, and in the recent period a decrease of rural to urban flows, the increase of the mobility inside metropolitan areas, an expulsion of population from metropolis and metropolitans areas, as well as a constant dispersion of population in small and medium villages. The article also highlights strong mobility for family reasons, violence and security issues, as well as environmental. Finally, of particular interest is the analysed period to observe the relationship between type of migration and economics cycles.
