The objective of this work is to analyze the hazards and vulnerabilities that hinder water security in communities of the Sonora River. 40 interviews were conducted with users of water for agricultural use and those in charge of drinking water in some localities in the peri-urban area of ​​Hermosillo and Ures. The main threats found are drought, water shortages and pollution, and in the case of peri-urban communities, the growth of the city of Hermosillo was added. Faced with these threats, a great sociohydric vulnerability was found, since most consider that they do not have the technical, political, economic, institutional and social capacity that allows them to have enough water to carry out their activities. It is concluded that sociohydric insecurity and vulnerability are present in the communities, as they do not have sustainable availability of water in sufficient quantity and quality, as a consequence of the conjunction of various dimensions that limit their ability to respond adequately.
