Abstract
ESPEJEL BARROSO, Pablo Alejandro. Introduction to the configuration of lay catholic bodies in Mexico in the twentieth century. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.22, 00010. Epub Feb 16, 2024. ISSN 2007-8846. https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl112220211283.
The purpose of carrying out an exploration of the political-historical construction of the relations between the Catholic Church and the Mexican State during the 20th century is to address the changes in the paradigms from the singular to the plural, since it moves from a unilateral relationship, in which both spheres compete for legitimate authority against the population, as political agents, when Mexico was going through processes of secularism and secularization, which led it from a confessional state to a secular one. As a result; The critical configuration between the Church, its satellite organizations and the State left a balance of political, economic and social instability, as they faced armed conflicts that led to a non-legal agreement called modus vivendi with which a certain stability was achieved. Later, reforms would be carried out that will reconfigure plurality in relationships and will leave space for new religious-political actors.
