Abstract

AGUILERA CALDERON, Raúl. The Easter celebration of the xi'iui (pames) of Santa María Acapulco. From the tangible to the intangible. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2015, vol.5, n.10, pp.134-157. ISSN 2007-8846.

This essay looks to start out by showing how the xi'iui (pames) of Santa María Acapulco, attribute to the objects they use during the Easter celebration, a symbolic and social significance with the purpose of mediating the relationship between them and their cosmos. The objects acquire so much of a tangible as an intangible dimension, exceeding the limits of the definition of Intangible Cultural Patrimony proposed by the UNESCO.

The essay is divided into two parts: in the first part the limits of said definition as a category of analysis are explored. In the second part, based on the ethnographic method, it is shown how the objects lose their materiality during the Easter celebration.

Keywords : objects; tangible and intangible; easter celebration; intangible cultural patrimony.
