Abstract

MASSO GUIJARRO, Ester. Overcoming Methodological Nationalism: Cosmopolitan Communities of Interaction in the Lavapiés Neighborhood. Migr. Inter [online]. 2013, vol.7, n.2, pp.71-100. ISSN 2594-0279.

The aim of this article is to analyze relations of coexistence in transnational spaces within cosmopolitan communities of interaction, comprising various groups and individuals of pluralistic national (and other) origins obviously including migrants. The ultimate aim of this study, which focuses on the cosmopolitan type of relationships these groups develop, and the participatory-integrative synergy they produce, is to overcome the methodological nationalism in the selection of the object of study, even in the objectification of the data being addressed. The methods used are bibliographical analysis and ethnography. The Lavapiés district (Madrid) has been used as an example and case study. Fieldwork was conducted intermittently between January 2011 and May 2012.

Keywords : cosmopolitanism; participatory paradigm; integration; transnationalism; Senegalese diaspora.
