Abstract

ALANIS ENCISO, Fernando Saúl. Nos vamos al norte: la emigración de San Luis Potosí a Estados Unidos entre 1920 y 1940. Migr. Inter [online]. 2004, vol.2, n.4, pp.67-94. ISSN 2594-0279.

This work analyzes the evolution, from 1920 to 1940, of migration from San Luis Potosí in Mexico to the United States. The state of San Luis Potosí was selected as a case study for its characteristic as a traditional source of migrant labor. The article's objective is to examine the early development of international migration in the state context, at a stage when two different and opposed phenomena co-existed: the massive exodus of people in the 1920s and the large-scale return during the 1930s. This is an exercise in historical reconstruction based on the collection of oral histories, consultation of classic works, and systematization of information obtained in national archives.

Keywords : international migration; history; repatriation; San Luis Potosí; United States.
