Brazil and Mexico are the largest Latin American economies and they also have obvious geographical advantages: Brazil for its vast territory and Mexico for its geo-strategic position between North America and Latin America. For this reasons, both exert an important influence in the region. Based on this, this article aims to analyze the leverage of Brazil and Mexico in Latin America between 2000 and 2015, considering, from diplomatic to economic-commercial aspects, that allow a global balance of their foreign policies for the region. For this, a systematic analysis is developed, divided between similar and divergent strategies of these countries. Factors such as the historical relation with Latin America, the dialectic of national and international interests, the development strategy adopted, its geographic location, the US relation and the regional context are preponderant for the approximations and distances between Brazil and Mexico’s regional leverage strategy.
