Liberationist Christianity emerged in the sixties, accompanied revolutionary movements and dependency theories in its critique of developmentalism and taking a clear stand in the “liberation or dependence” contradiction. Afterwards, the dictatorships of the seventies and the post-dictatorial reconstruction processes of the eighties reformulated the terms of discussion, particularly in the Southern Cone. There was no longer talk of revolution, but of democracy and new social movements. Liberationist Christianity, analyzed here through the pages of the Alternativa Latinoamericana magazine (1985-1990), also engaged in this new scenario. However, the Christian nature of its critique had a role in the way in which these debates were raised, questioning the cultural aims of the modernization processes, the protest against the colonization of life by capitalism and the vindication of miscegenation.
