Abstract

VAZQUEZ OLIVERA, M. Gabriela. The quality of education: Educational reforms and social control in Latin-America. Latinoamérica [online]. 2015, n.60, pp.93-124. ISSN 2448-6914.

This paper seeks to contribute to the reflection on the educational reforms in Latin America, specifically on the ones conceived with respect to the quality of education, and the role these play in relation to social control. Likewise, it also provides elements on the neoliberal conception of education, and emphasizes the regulations that have been implemented when considering that quality is equal to evaluation, which in its turn is equal to the measurement of results. A quick review of the reforms in Chile and Mexico shows the new mechanisms of social control underlying the goal of quality education.

Keywords : Education; Reforms; Quality; Regulation; Social control.
