Abstract

ORTEGA REYNA, Jaime. Mexico and Cuba: the beginnings of a relationship. Latinoamérica [online]. 2009, n.49, pp.155-180. ISSN 2448-6914.

In the present work there is approached of synthetic form the presence of the Cuban general Carlos García Vélez as diplomatic representative in Mexico. The work divides in two paragraphs, the first one of them exposes significant information and an interpretation on the personage in question, highlighting his family links, his political path but also intellectual; and one comes second where is observed the period that served as diplomatic representative, emphasizing his critical look of the Mexican reality. The personage returns relevant, besides his political biography, to the being the first diplomatic representative of newly inaugurated Cuban republic, in the period that goes from 1902 to 1906.
