Abstract

HERRERA CASTANEDA, Marco Vinicio  and  FLORES REYES, Dorian. Artistic creative processes and cultural studies. LiminaR [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.2, e907.  Epub Oct 31, 2022. ISSN 2007-8900.  https://doi.org/10.29043/liminar.v20i2.907.

This article analyzes how cultural studies, a field that claims to be interested in all cultural expressions, has partially dealt with artistic creative processes. We start by reviewing the relationship between both fields, and then examine the fields separately, highlighting the aspects that have hindered a possible fruitful relationship: Within cultural studies, we note the presence of disciplinary and methodological issues; within the artistic field, we see an emphasis on restricting almost all external influence to its norms. Acknowledging these situations has constructive intentions: by overcoming misunderstandings, it is much more likely that the closeness of the social sciences to creative processes and to the production of new and diverse knowledge could increase.

Keywords : arts; artistic creation; culture; cultural research; cultural studies.
