Abstract

OIKION SOLANO, Verónica. Cuca García: tracing the socialist route through education. Sig. his [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.34, pp.42-77. ISSN 1665-4420.

Adopting a social perspective, this article aims to recover the forgotten memory of María del Refugio García Martínez as an important agent of education and social change in the district of Zitácuaro, Michoacán, between 1921 and 1923. Her convictions about public education were grounded on her earlier experiences during the Mexican Revolution and her participation in leftist political parties. These convictions had a positive impact on the local population and forged an orientation that interlaced socialism with anarchism and syndicalism. The national context strengthened her determination to support the educational paradigm based on José Vasconcelos’s project.

Keywords : government; Francisco J. Múgica; rural school; Zitácuaro; revolution.
