Abstract

Ideas, agreements and disagreements related to the constitution of the other generated among the Mexican intellectual and political elites are analyzed in the present text. Speeches and proposals regarding the racial and cultural homogenization are also evaluated, as well as the posing of issues in relation to the social optimization of the rural and indigenous population in the frame of the construction of a modern nation. In order to do that the term indigenismo is assumed as something similar to an official doctrine of the new post-revolutionary State, which has been implemented since the decade of 1920 as a project of social engineering that aimed to settle the bases of cultural change, as well as to reconstruct the values of Mexican nationalism.
