Abstract
PRECIADO ZAMORA, Julia. Los cristeros del volcán y los pacíficos de La Esperanza. Sig. his [online]. 2008, vol.10, n.19, pp.68-92. ISSN 1665-4420.
This article analyzes the cases of two communities of southern Jalisco State, Tonila and La Esperanza, during the Cristero uprising. Although both communities were separated by barely three kilometers, they chose rival political stances: Tonila joined the Cristero rebellion, while La Esperanza remained peaceful. Julia Preciado suggests that the figures of the Bishop of Colima, José Amador Velasco, and that of the German hacienda owner, Enrique Schöndube, had a bearing on what happened in the area during the Cristero war.
Keywords : Cristero war; Peaceful peasants; José Amador Velasco; Enrique Schöndube; Southern Jalisco.
