Abstract

GOMEZ COLLADO, Martha E.. Panorama of the Mexican education system from the perspective of public policy. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.74, pp.143-163. ISSN 1665-2673.

The article offers a general panorama of the Mexican education system from the perspective of public policies. Official documents, such as the National Development Plan 2013-2018 and the Program for the Educational Sector, are analyzed, allowing us to juxtapose this information with the results of the evaluations made by the OECD through the international PISA tests from the years 2000 to 2015. We employ an analytical and descriptive model based on digital resources and documentary information. The analysis of these documents allows us to affirm the necessity for structural changes in order to transform quality education based on a redesigning of the educational plans and programs, the creation of more and better infrastructure, professor training and the redefinition of the profile of graduated students. The goal is to go beyond the establishment of the Professional Teaching Service and the evaluation of the INEE, and to make education mandatory through the high school level.

Keywords : Education; educational policy; educational reform; public policies; quality.
