I will analyze Louis Althusser’s reading of psychoanalysis and psychology from his epistemological scheme of science as a theoretical practice. According to this scheme, psychoanalysis would be the truly scientific form of psychology, insofar as it allows a theoretical critique of classical ideological psychology. I will also examine the role that Althusser gives to psychoanalysis and psychology in his reflections of the late sixties and the seventies, in the context of his theory of discourses and in relation to the problem of ideological interpellation and the subject.
