Abstract

SANTANA VALENCIA, Emma Verónica. The construction of family resilience in the experience of disability: A possibility to generate inclusive processes. Sinéctica [online]. 2019, n.53.  Epub Aug 28, 2020. ISSN 2007-7033.  https://doi.org/10.31391/s2007-7033(2019)0053-012.

The present research is the result of a doctoral dissertation, which main purpose was to know, how families living with a child’s disability build family resilience by developing inclusive processes? The objective of this document was to analyze resilience in families experiencing disability and the way in which this experience enables inclusive processes. A qualitative methodology was used with a case study design, the data approximation was done through an in-depth interview with five families and their members. The results allow us to deduce that family resilience is a dynamic process that has multiple aspects, which offer opportunities that allow to evolve towards the inclusion of the son or brother with disability both inside and outside the family, which is achieved through actions of confrontation, acceptance, the sense they give to adversity, the narratives that arise, as well as the presence of self-determined female figures, the ambivalence of sensations and recognition of the singularity of the other.

Keywords : family; disability; resilience; inclusive ducation.
