Abstract
SOLIS CASTILLO, Fernando and AGUIAR SIERRA, Rocío. Impact of family involvement on academic performance in secondary school. Sinéctica [online]. 2017, n.49. ISSN 2007-7033.
This research analyzes the types of parental involvement with their children´s secondary school and the relationship between the type of parental involvement and the academic performance of their children. It is a quantitative, transversal and descriptive study. The instrument used was the Epstein and Clark instrument “School and Family Partnerships: Questionnaires for Parents in Elementary and Middle Grades”. The sample was 707 parents of 18 different public and private secondary schools in Merida, Yucatan. The results indicate that the activity of involvement that most parents perform is making a positive home environment and encouraging school success. Students’, whose parents got involved with the school as volunteers when invited, were those with better academic performance.
