Abstract

DELVAL, Juan. La escuela para el siglo XXI. Sinéctica [online]. 2013, n.40, pp.01-18. ISSN 2007-7033.

School should be a privileged place to provide training to participate fully in a civic and democratic life but today we face a contradiction between the kind of education provided in schools, and the model of society that is formally sought. What we must want to achieve is to build schools that are democratic and prepare individuals to act as true citizens, and not just subjects. How do we do it? How can we achieve a school that meets these functions? What should we do in schools to move towards the formation of individuals with these characteristics? If we choose to promote the existence of happy and autonomous individuals we must start by undertaking a number of reforms.

Keywords : democratic education; autonomy; education reform; public school.
