This article demonstrates the importance of Mexican research in the international arena, based on the level achieved by researchers publishing in the journals of the Mexican Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) during the period 1997 to 2008. Furthermore, for the sub period 1997 to 2002, assessing whether there is a correspondence between the level of ISI publication and researchers who were part of the National System of Researchers (SNI), in order to know whether the part of the program is related to a level of higher quality publication (as it really is to publish in journals indexed in ISI).
