Abstract

BUXARRAIS ESTRADA, María Rosa  and  OVIDE, Evaristo. El impacto de las nuevas tecnologías en la educación en valores del siglo XXI. Sinéctica [online]. 2011, n.37, pp.1-14. ISSN 2007-7033.

The new technologies, understanding as such all digital devices that can be connected to a computer and/or the internet, are probably the most powerful, versatile and ubiquitous tools that society has ever known. However, the field of education in the Spanish-speaking world is not known for being pioneers in exploiting the potential of these tools in their teaching activity. This fact, as we will show in this article, could explain the little success of the anacronic methods and means of educational institutions to prepare citizens to face the challenges of the 21st century. We intend to show the role that these digital tools can play, both in the efficiency of the teaching activity, creating new ways and means to learn, and in education in values, promoting personal initiative, critical skills or social interaction. We believe that these values and attitudes are the most useful element the educational system can provide to prepare citizens for a future that, in these ever-changing times, will demand new knowledge, but in which, having initiative, being a team worker and having social skills will probably be still required and appreciated.

Keywords : moral education; moral values; educational system; new technologies; free software; constructivism.
