Abstract

MARQUEZ JIMENEZ, Alejandro. Sistemas de indicadores educativos: su utilidad en el análisis de los problemas educativos. Sinéctica [online]. 2010, n.35, pp.1-25. ISSN 2007-7033.

The aim of this paper is to show the educational indicators systems' utility to analyze the appraisals that are usually performed on the educational systems' operation. To illustrate this, we use the information from the Panorama educativo mexicano 2006 and discuss a number of statements that have been realized regarding to the efficiency with operating the Mexican education system. The results permit to tinge and to put the information in context, specially the information used by those who have even argued that Mexican government makes an excessive spending on education and the productivity of the educational system is low. Also, we show the inequity in the distribution of the resources and the effects of socioeconomic background variables on students' academic achievement. The conclusions emphasize the utility currently provided by the indicators systems to analyze, with reliable information, diverse hypothesis that arise about the operation of the national educational system and which frequently are not supported by empirical evidence.

Keywords : educational indicators; educational spending; efficiency; academic achievement; basic education.
