Abstract

For much of the twentieth century youth and its inherent problems were not considered under review by social sciences in Mexico, due to lack of relevance of the topic. However, since 1985 with the celebration of International Youth Year, it acquired some prominence within the government agenda and therefore in academia; hence, there were generated the first outlines of the theoretical study youth in Mexico. Therefore, this paper aims to identify the main theories and various research reports on the construction of scientific knowledge about young people in Mexico. In this connection they stress the contributions in terms of organizations, youth cultures and identities, emphasizing the latter some of the main findings about the heterogeneity of youth. It also provides important results regarding the problems that generally affect young people in the country.
