Abstract

AGUILAR GARCIA, Javier. Globalization and trade-unionism: comparison between Mexico and France (1975-2006). Espiral (Guadalaj.) [online]. 2010, vol.16, n.48, pp.47-83. ISSN 1665-0565.

The union index in Mexico and France is compared. As a result of economic globalization processes it is possible to observe similar statistical tendencies between the two countries with different histories and structures, and pertaining to different economic regions. However, because of similar policies in labor markets, similar phenomenons are observed in employment, unemployment, flexibilization, dearticulation of the sense of solidarity in pension systems, drastic lowering of social pacts, labor law reform or de-crease of unionized population. It is worth mentioning that the lowering of the union index is similar in both countries, which is clearly shown for the period 1975-2002.

Keywords : globalization; labor markets; social pacts; labor policy; union index.
