The movement for the void vote that emerged in the circumstances of the 2009 federal elections is described and analyzed. The early signs of the emergence of this novel movement are traced, how the void vote was promoted, the rejection that it produced among the parties, the electoral bodies and the catholic hierarchy and the debate that occurred on a national level in connection with this movement; the organizational forms that said movement adopted and its impacts. It has as background a growing abstentionism and its implications.
