Abstract

DE LA VEGA ALFARO, Eduardo  and  VIDAL BONIFAZ, Rosario. Cine y propaganda política regional: el caso de Alma Tlaxcalteca (Ángel E. Álvarez, 1931). Espiral (Guadalaj.) [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.42, pp.127-143. ISSN 1665-0565.

After working for several films, some of them shot on location in the Puebla region, in November 1931 moviemaker Ángel E. Álvarez is hired by the Tlaxcala governor to film the ceremonies of the Semana Nacionalista (Nationalist Week) celebrated in this state. As a result, the documentary Alma Tlaxcalteca was produced, and it is now a worthy example of regional political propaganda through the cinema and therefore, it is a valuable and revealing historic document to understand the intentions of the government of Tlaxcala Socialist Party Member Adrián Vázquez Sánchez.

Keywords : Nationalist Week; mass politics; documentary film; regional political propaganda; historiography of Mexican cinema.
