Abstract

METLICH MEDLICH, Ana Isabel. Institution Restrictions in Scientific Productivity: A Mexican Public University's Case. REDIE [online]. 2009, vol.11, n.1, pp.1-20. ISSN 1607-4041.

Identifying research restricting factors is important to the universities as well as to researchers. In this paper, several aspects that can systematically influence scientific productivity were researched and identified. The bases to setup this work were 48 interviews done to researchers of a public state university. Researchers in the highest SNI level (National Researchers System of Mexico, by its acronym in Spanish), as well as those not yet inside this the SNI were chosen. The results support that researchers are subject to demands that make difficult for them to carry-out their duties, as: knowledge production, teaching, student counseling, and compliance with internal and overall policies.

Keywords : Faculty publishing; academic teaching personnel; colleges; organization.
