Abstract

BECK, Humberto. The Event between History and the Present. Desacatos [online]. 2017, n.55, pp.44-59. ISSN 2448-5144.

Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht’s and François Hartog's theoretical approaches on the crisis of historicism and the establishment of presentism -a regime of the relationship with time based on the experience of the present- have occupied a central place in the recent discussions on history. Presentism has coexisted with another discourse on historical time: that of the “return of the event,” to which have contributed authors such as Alain Badiou and Slavoj Žižek. Although this discourse shares certain aspects of both presentism and historicism, it represents the formulation of a specific form of the experience of time.

Keywords : presentism; event; Gumbrecht; Hartog; Žižek; Badiou; historicity.
