Abstract

ANGULO SALAZAR, Lourdes. Risky Financial Practices to Face Household Economic Crises: Between Juggling and Overindebtedness. Desacatos [online]. 2014, n.44, pp.51-66. ISSN 2448-5144.

We analyze the undergoings of microfinance users in the context of economic crisis in 2009 as well as the practices involving institutions that provide microfinancial services.We focus on the adoption of certain technologies for the analysis and prevision of risk as well as the implications of the use of certain mechanisms entail, particularly the social relations as social collateral. We explore the social meanings and moral obligations of reciprocal aid, the connotation that particular inancial practices acquire according to who develops them and under what premises and aims, the estimation of risk and the measures taken to ameliorate it according to accessible information and analytical resources within which these are interpreted. The study was carried out in two Mexican regions: Autlán-El Grullo Valley in Jalisco, and Miahuatlán in Oaxaca.
