Abstract

This article develOPS three arguments to explain the high levels of violence we experience today in Mexico: 1) the prevalence of types of violence that have existed from long time ago, not related with organized crime groups, but tolerated and even ignored, in combination with other factors, they have fueled the current levels of violence; the weakness and decomposition of the police and justice institutions, and 3) the inadequacy of social and economic policies to reduce inequality and to promote the inclusion of large sectors of population, and a larger "I and better integration of those policies with the security ones to define their common goals.
