Abstract

MORENO MINGUEZ, Almudena. La ambivalencia ante la corresponsabilidad parental en España: una cuestión de género. La ventana [online]. 2015, vol.5, n.42, pp.46-98. ISSN 1405-9436.

We have many studies on family change, although there are few qualitative analysis of the attitudes and values that underpin gender roles in the couple. This article presents the results obtained through the implementation of 21 in-depth interviews on cultural contexts of gender roles about father and mother involvement. The results suggest that family attitudes and cultural values associated with male breadwinner model (father as main economic provider and mother as main caregiver) are reproduced in the negotiation process and decision making of the couple, becoming a key factor in explaining the persistence of traditional stereotypes associated with motherhood and fatherhood involvement.

Keywords : gender roles; parenting; gendered household tasks; family; welfare state; Spain.
