Abstract
TIRADO VILLEGAS, Gloria Arminda. Puebla 1961, género y movimiento estudiantil. La ventana [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.39, pp.179-207. ISSN 1405-9436.
The present essay aims to visibilize the participation of women in the student movement of the University of Puebla during 1961, using the transversality of gender, category that allows us to reconstruct the asymmetries between genders, as well as the empowerment within the student movement. This important conflict in the history of the university lasted more than two years and brought about real autonomy for the university: it let the university community, instead of the Governor, elect its authorities, and for the university to become secular and free. The movement exploded in the context of the Cold War, and faced an extreme conservatism, dominated by the right and the extreme right. For this reason the involvement of liberal women students is notable, although not numerous.
