This article is the result of a research that was conducted in the Universidad Estatal a Distancia in Costa Rica. It addresses the issue of sex work and the influence of patriarchy in the social imaginary, in the context of the city of San Jose, capital of costa rica, during the first decade of the XXI century. From the analysis of the results it is concluded that the issue of gender and social and economic inequalities of the sex worker are used by the patriarchal system in her status as sex objects and enjoyment for others.
