Abstract

The article examines the links between motherhood and work among professional women in middle socio economic sectors of the City of Buenos Aires. Some lines of analysis are: the role of motherhood in their life plans and how they combine parenting with their professional activities; the concept of "affective labor" or "immaterial labor" linked to maternal exercise; the mandates and cultural representations from which they build the imagery of motherhood today (which remain valid for previous generations and what are the new terms) and how these impact on the traditional sexual division of labor and in their life paths.
