Abstract

DUNCKEL-GRAGLIA, Amy. Rosa, el nuevo color del feminismo: un análisis del transporte exclusivo para mujeres. La ventana [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.37, pp.148-176. ISSN 1405-9436.

This paper looks at the relationship between the urban mobility of women and violence against them in public transportation. In particular, it explores gender themes that influence the sexual violence occurring in public transportation, focusing on both the traditional role of women as household figures and not public ones, as well as the nurture vs. nature debate in explaining men's violent behavior towards women. Because women-only transit services were implemented in order to resolve problems between men and women in public transportation they serve as a point of reference used by the general public to debate these gendered themes. This study examines, analyzes, and evaluates women-only transportation and the effects it has on them's mobility in relation to these gendered debates. It finds that "pink transportation" helps women break out of the public/private trap in which they find themselves, making issues of gender discrimination more visible.

Keywords : gender discrimination; the city; feminism; urban mobility.
