Abstract

RAMIREZ RODRIGUEZ, Juan Carlos; LOPEZ LOPEZ, Gemma Cithlalli  and  PADILLA GONZALEZ, Francisco José. ¿Nuevas generaciones, nuevas creencias? Violencia de género y jóvenes. La ventana [online]. 2009, vol.3, n.29, pp.110-145. ISSN 1405-9436.

Beliefs are key elements to understand and to identify gender relations and violent relations among young men and women. This article presents and discusses findings from a population of young people in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara. Beliefs are recreated from one generation to the next. They are associated with control and domination of women by men: a constant tension between good and bad treatment, men's perception of women as attempting to dominate men. A comprehensive understanding of such beliefs could translate into intervention strategies that promote gender equity.

Keywords : Gender; violence; youths; beliefs; masculinity.
