This article takes a look at the situation of women in New Spain (Colonial Mexico) through the literature of the time, especially banned books. The paper analyzes a hand-written poetry booklet entitled Amor del tiempo, focusing on subjects like love, honor and the discourse of social control institutions. The role of women with regard to free love and New Spain's social order is also described.
