Abstract

HASAN, Alma F.. Estados de consumo e instancias de desvinculación: el lugar de las mujeres. La ventana [online]. 2008, vol.3, n.27, pp.105-129. ISSN 1405-9436.

This paper presents a selective overview of the historical milestones that have led women to perform and hold certain roles in society, and it discusses the public and the private sphere and their relevance to segregations and conditionings. Everyday consumption makes demands on woman as producers, mothers, and home administrators, for which they seldom receive any recognition. According to Bauman, "liquid modernity" shapes the lives of women and men and defines them as consumers. The prevailing socio-economic system values consumption as a cornerstone of production, distribution and achievement. Discomfort and anxiety take root in a helpless, detached, isolated and suffering subject.

Keywords : consumption; liquid modernity; gender; fragmentation; detachment.
